SERVICE IS WHAT WE DO

On Saturday, November 18, the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Chicago Chapter organized a Thanksgiving Luncheon for the residents of Veterans New Beginnings. The event was held inside the “Man Cave” and “Tech Center” located at 8140 S. Racine Avenue, Chicago, IL.

The theme wasTHANK YOU FROM NHBW – SERVICE IS WHAT WE DO.

Melissa said, “We wanted to show military veterans appreciation for their service and to give back during this season of giving.”

The gracious host went to great lengths to ensure every detail was perfect, from the decor to the food.

The event was a resounding success, with attendees expressing their gratitude for the warm hospitality and the opportunity to connect.

Melissa Powell, president of the Chicago Chapter of NHBW said, “The veterans remembered us from last year. This year, they brought a friend. We will provide to-go plates to take back to their rooms. We are giving away raffle tickets and prizes today. The membership was responsible for bringing gifts for the raffle.”

The veterans were beaming with joy. The flavorsome food was prepared, cooked, and served with delight, from NHBW and assisted by Top Teens of America.

Sharon McDonald said, “I am grateful and blessed that we are here today! Because serving the military veterans is important to me. They are enjoying delicious food today, all homemade by NHBW, Chicago Chapter.”

The mouthwatering menu included; baked chicken, honey-baked ham, fried fish, potato salad, fresh green beans, sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese, and dressing. The gravy and cranberry sauce added the perfect tangy flavor to the meal. The dessert included homemade sweet potato pies, pound cakes, and peach cobbler.
