Dr. Willie Wilson won’t rule out another run for mayor

After donating $25 for each of the 5,200 Cook County Jail detainees on Monday, December 16th, Wilson gave $25 gift cards at two churches last Sunday. For the children, he gave each a police doll along with $5.

Wilson said he’s concerned about Chicago’s homeless and has not ruled out another run for mayor.

“I have not ruled out another run for mayor,” Wilson said.

Over the weekend, Dr. Wilson gave out gift cards to people attending the. Christ Tabernacle MB Church of Austin, 845 N. Central Avenue, and The New Vision Community Church, 2552 W. 21st St., both in Chicago.

Speaking at the Cook County Department of Corrections, 3015 S. California, Dr. Wilson said he is excited to help the detainees because, “There is no greater joy than helping others.”

Reminded that while there is no more room to accommodate the homeless in Chicago at a time when Trump has vowed to make this city “ground zero” for deportations of illegal immigrants, Wilson said when he first ran for mayor, he was the first one to say they never should have been allowed entry.

“We should take care of home first,” Wilson told the Chicago Crusader. “We have people right now sleeping on the streets, got no home and no food. We don’t take care of our own so how can we take care of somebody else? I don’t have anything against anybody, but I believe you should take care and support our own home first.”

He believes there should be laws that clearly spell out the conditions under which people can legally enter this country.

If elected mayor, 76-year-old Wilson, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2015, 2019, and 2023, said he would put the Sanctuary City initiative on the ballot. “The people should decide if they want Chicago to be a Sanctuary City,” he said.

Asked his opinion about Trump’s vow to increase tariffs, Wilson said, “I don’t agree with him on that one. I think what Trump wants to do is to bring more businesses back.

“The United Stated has the strongest economy in the world. Everyone wants to do business with us, but we can’t be isolated from the rest of the world.”

When asked about Trump’s appointees, Wilson said, “I am not feeling too good on that one especially his appointed to oversee the FBI,” referring to Kash Patel another staunch Trump loyalists, who has vowed to seek revenge for those who went against Trump.

“Patel wants to get even with those who did Trump wrong. We don’t need anyone to try to get even with nobody. We need people to be fair,” said Wilson who voted for Kamala Harris in 2024. We need people to fix the economy. I don’t like is picks.” Wilson said Trump’s appointees are not qualified to hold those oppositions.

While the nation remains divided after the November 5th election, Wilson is encouraging everyone to look to the future. “I know it’s tough but be encouraged that we can all make it.

“In this season we celebrate the birth of Christ. Those with a problem, Jesus Christ will fix it for you because he will not let his own people suffer. He will make it a way somehow. Merry Christmas and jingle bells all the way,” said Wilson.
