On Sunday, April 12th, the congregation of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church gathered at 5115 S. State Street in Chicago, Illinois, to celebrate a milestone nine years in the making — the 9th Pastoral Anniversary of their Senior Pastor, Jessie W. Lee.
The celebration carried a fitting theme: A Pastor With the Heart of God — a reflection of the spirit Pastor Lee has brought to the Greater Shiloh community throughout his tenure.
A Night of Fellowship and Honored Guests
The evening was enriched by the presence of two distinguished guest speakers. Pastor Scott Onqué of St. Luke M.B. Church and Pastor Charlie Mabry of Plentiful Harvest Christian Church joined the celebration, lending their voices and support to honor Pastor Lee and the work of the Greater Shiloh family.
The gathering drew doctors, ministers, deacons, and dear friends — a testament to the wide circle of love and respect Pastor Lee has cultivated over nine years of dedicated service. Among those present was his brother, who came straight from working a midnight shift, and his close friend Dr. James C. Boyd, whose attendance meant a great deal to the pastor.
“Dr. Boyd is my friend… we have fun. We joke, we laugh and we pray together. Amen. Listen, let me say this. We ain’t read scripture every time we talk to each other.”
Gratitude from the Pulpit
True to his character, Pastor Lee used the moment not to spotlight himself, but to pour appreciation onto those around him. He offered heartfelt thanks to Sister Kim, Sister Gil, and Sister Delois Johnson for their tireless work in cooking and serving — the kind of behind-the-scenes labor that holds a church community together.
His words to the congregation were simple, warm, and unmistakably sincere: “I love y’all more than y’all love me. Amen.”
What the anniversary made clear is that Greater Shiloh is more than a church — it is a family, shaped in no small part by the heart of the man who leads it.
