On Saturday, March 29th, a heartfelt award celebration was held in honor of Pastor Mitty Collier, who was recently inducted into Alabama’s Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame. The event occurred at her church, More Like Christ Ministries, which is situated at 8201 South Dobson in Chicago, IL.

Mitty Collier is a pastor, playwright, and a former Rhythm & Blues recording artist from the sixties. She was associated with the legendary Chess Record Company during that time. Her discography includes songs such as “I Gotta Get Away From It All,” “You Don’t Have to Find No Part-Time Love,” “Let Them Talk,” “No Faith, No Love,” “Sharing You,” and the song that solidified her status as one of America’s top R&B artists: “I Had a Talk with My Man Last Night.”

Her career began at the renowned Regal Theatre in Chicago, IL, after she won first place in the Al Benson Talent Show in 1960. She was discovered by Chess Records talent scout Ralph Bass, which led to her receiving a recording contract. Mitty has performed in many major cities, including the Uptown Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; the Howard Theatre in Washington, D.C.; the Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New York; and the Regal Theatre in Chicago, as well as numerous nightclubs across the continental United States.
